Furthermore, a number of people sometimes even forget about the fact that there is a difference between the two principles. Even though there are many similarities between Vastu Shastra and feng shui, there are still many factors that distinguish them. The techniques of Vastu Shastra must be applied when you are making a brand new house whereas the practices of Feng Shui can be done anytime at any part of the house.

    Vastu Shastra and Feng Shui

    Vastu Shastra, which is a Sanskrit word, means ‘Dwelling Science’ and in this Vastu is ‘dwelling’ and Shastra is ‘science. ’Vastu Shastra is very ancient Hindu guideline on architectural principles, layout and planning for good luck and to prevent negative energy. The culture of the feng shui demonstrates the different marshals of an area and other places for creating a healthy living and prosperity as well as attracting luck.

    Bhoomi – The piece of land or area where humans construct their houses.

    Prasada- The walls and the building lines are constructed on or around the Bhoomi or land that the human decides to create.

    Yaana– It is all the vehicles and carriages that have been parked on Bhoomi.

    Difference between Vastu Shastra and Feng Shui?

    Vastu literally means dwelling or building, while Shastra means science, teachings, or scripture. It implies that Vastu means the science of dwelling or building knowledge. Feng stands for air and Shui stands for water. Therefore, Feng Shui is associated with earth wind and water. Vastu Shastra was developed more than 5000 years ago in India. The first evidence was provided in the written form in the Rig Veda from around 1500 – 1000 BC.

    Feng Shui is more than 3000 years old in China. The documentary evidence of Feng Shui in written form was discovered in the Burial Book (around 276 – 324 CE). Vastu shastra, purpose of which is to build spaces in accordance with environmental harmony. One of the key objectives for Feng Shui is the creation and manipulation of harmony in order to bring about major improvements in life. Vastu Shastra is science-based on scientific facts and observations. Feng shui is just a geographical connection. According to Vastu, the north is the most auspicious direction because it is the only source of magnetic energy. Feng Shui considers the South the most favorable direction because the sun keep moving from East to West. Vastu Shastra proposes that water must be placed in the northeast direction. Feng Shui holds the belief that earthly materials should be placed in the north-east corner. Vastushastra gave importance to the usage of Tulsi plants, including Ganesh idols in the right direction, etc. Feng Shui consists of the bamboo, laughing Buddhas, and wind chimes in the correct direction.
