In Iran, reformists are now in power. After Ibrahim Raisi died in a helicopter crash, the hardliners lost the early elections. Iran’s next president will be Masoud Pezeshkian. He ran on a platform of bringing the nation closer to the West, which has been at odds with America for many years.

Iran’s presidential election has produced a result. The winner of the presidential race is reformist Masoud Pezeshkian. He has triumphed over the widely regarded extremist candidate Saeed Jalili. He had campaigned on a platform of bringing Iran, which has long been at odds with US leadership, closer to the West.

Additionally, the Newly Elected President Conveys Faith in The Supreme Leader.

For instance, Saeed Jalili, who was regarded as close to the Supreme Leader and was well-known as Iran’s previous nuclear negotiator, lost this election. Since Pezeshkian has pledged to maintain Iran’s Shia theocracy during his presidency, there is little chance that the country’s system will undergo significant changes following his triumph.

The Supreme Leader’s pronouncement is definitive in Iran. Pezeshkian belongs to the group of leaders who believe that the Supreme Leader is the ultimate arbiter in all national affairs. He has been pushing for improved ties between Iran and the West, whose sanctions have made the country’s current state worse.

Elections Were Conducted Following Ibrahim Raisi’s Passing.

Iran had to hold early presidential elections when Ibrahim Raisi, the country’s president, perished in a helicopter crash. The regulations stipulate that the President shall be elected within 50 days in such a case. As the person closest to Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, the Supreme Leader, Raisi was regarded as Khamenei’s successor.

Hardline contender Saeed Jalili received 13.5 million votes in the election, while reformist leader Pezeshkian received 16.3 million. Pezeshkian has been an MP for a long time and does cardiac surgery. His followers are in a joyful mood, having spearheaded a significant shift in the nation’s power structure. His followers turned out on the streets to celebrate during the vote counting.

Challenges Facing the Incoming President in Foreign Policy

It is said that Ayatollah Khamenei is the last arbiter in all national disputes. Pezeshkian may face challenges in this scenario, as the Supreme Leader’s foreign policy has been at odds with the leadership of the United States. The battle between Israel and Hamas, regional tensions, and a precarious situation involving armed organizations such as Hezbollah-Houthi ranging from Yemen to Lebanon could pose challenges for the incoming president.

It was thought that Pezeshkian and Jalili would compete fiercely in the Iran election runoff. Among the few contenders who pledged to let the outside world into Iran was Pezeshkian. He pledged, for instance, to take action to improve ties with Western nations. Jalili, however, asserted that Iran, which is governed by Khamenei, would benefit more from China and Russia.

    What Modifications Might Pezeshkian Oversee?

Iran may complete the 2015 nuclear deal under Masoud Pezeshkian’s leadership, which has resulted in numerous sanctions being placed on the nation. Although Pezeshkian’s position on the hijab is unclear, there have been certain social and political developments in Iran during his term. However, he deemed the excesses intolerable in response to Mahsa Amini’s death, at age 22.

If claims from international media outlets are to be trusted, Iranians are also not that doubtful about Pezeshkian’s capacity to carry out his electoral promises. Throughout his election campaign, the newly elected president Pezeshkian has made it very evident that he has no intention of interfering with the security services and clerics’ inner sanctuaries.
