The most recent film directed by Vineeth Sreenivasan has been making waves, particularly thanks to the promotional interviews that the cast and crew have been doing. Dhyan Sreenivasan, Pranav Mohanlal, Aju Varghese, Nivin Pauly, Basil Joseph, Kalyani Priyadarshan, Asif Ali, and a number of other notable actors are among the ensemble cast members in the movie. When the movie opened in theaters on April 11th, audiences flocked to see it. Is the hoopla truly justified, though? Let’s talk about it!

    The Plot of Varshangalkku Shesham

The story of Venu and Murali, two friends, is told in Varshangalkku Shesham from the 1970s to the present. Narrated by Venu, the film chronicles the journey of the protagonist and his closest companion, Murali, to Madras to break into the film industry. Murali wants to become a musician, but Venu wants to be a director.

But as Venu succeeds, his bond with Murali becomes strained. The main plot revolves around how the two friends get over their problems and band together to create a movie nearly fifty years after they first met.

    What works in Varshangalkku Shesham

Viswajith Odukkathil’s cinematography grabs the audience’s interest from the very first scene of the movie. The use of vivid and striking hues enhances not only the visual appeal of the movie but also the general atmosphere of the 1970s world that Vineeth Sreenivasan has portrayed. The astute editing by Ranjan Abraham, which conveys each character’s predicament extremely effectively, works in concert with the cinematography.

The soundtrack, composed by Amrit Ramnath, the renowned vocalist Bombay Jayashri’s son, melds in perfectly with the action on screen. The film Varshangalkku Shesham heavily relies on music, as one of the main characters is a composer. Amrit’s music is masterfully crafted, fitting in all the many events and circumstances.

As previously said, the film is set in Madras (now Chennai) and is set in the 1970s. This of course meant putting up a set, which Nimesh Thanur has done to perfection. The movie’s settings and Ronex Xavier’s makeup are unquestionably two of its strongest technical sections, effectively conveying the timeline to the viewer.

Lastly, Vineeth Sreenivasan’s writing. Despite having a stunning running time of two hours and forty-six minutes, the movie never felt dragging. The nostalgic speech from the classic films starring Mohanlal and Sreenivasan was expertly incorporated by the director to establish a bond between the viewer and the movie. In addition, the director expertly showcased his personal passion for the arts of music and filmmaking through the usage of the movie. Unquestionably, the core of this sentimental movie is Vineeth Sreenivasan’s astute screenplay.

What does not work in Varshangalkku Shesham

There is never a perfect movie, and Varshangalkku Shesham by Vineeth Sreenivasan is no exception. Pranav Mohanlal and Kalyani Priyadarshan have multiple situations in the early part of the movie, which is entirely set in the 1970s when their conversation sounds a little forced or bookish. That does not, however, diminish the performers’ performances in the moment, which they represent with compelling authenticity. However, it is important to note that these exchanges are brief, and the remainder of the movie is visually stunning.

    Performances in the Movie

It’s not simple to play a character who is 50 years apart, but Dhyan Sreenivasan and Pranav Mohanlal did a fantastic job at it. Arguably, Dhyan Sreenivasan’s performance in Varshangalkku Shesham is his best to date. The actor does a fantastic job portraying Venu, a budding director who realizes his dream and ultimately meets his demise. Pranav Mohanlal’s character also appears to experience a wide range of emotions during the movie.

In the movie, Nivin Pauly portrays the actor Nithin Molly; it was hinted that the character will make a reappearance in Varshangalkku Shesham. The assertion is accurate on all fronts. The actor, whose screen time is minimal, steals the show with his comic timing, intensity, and performance.

The performances of Vineeth Sreenivasan, Kalyani Priyadarshan, Aju Varghese, Basil Joseph, and well-known music composer Shaan Rahman are all comparable. There was chemistry between the main cast members of the movie, who are all known to be close friends.

    Verdict of Varshangalkku Shesham

As previously stated, the main cast and crew of Varshangalkku Shesham have a close friendship outside of the film. Because of this, the entire movie had the feel of a meta podcast that was presented in a cinematic manner. It also addressed a lot of running jokes and internal jokes, which offered the viewer a positive, enjoyable experience. Varshangalkku Shesham is a pleasant trip down memory lane that the whole family should see in the theater.
