Shakira’s Liberation: Free from the Constraints of Her Ex-Husband

The pop icon remarked on how her music career has blossomed since her separation from her ex-husband, Pique, with whom she has two children.

“Now, I’m inclined to work. I’m driven to write songs and create music. It’s become a compelling necessity for me, one I didn’t experience previously,” Shakira expressed.

The musician shared that the Spanish title of the album translates to “Women Don’t Cry Anymore,” explaining to Fallon, “It’s time for men to take their turn. We’ve been expected to cry on cue for too long just because we’re women. We’ve had to suppress our pain in front of our children and society.”

“We need to heal in our own way. No one should dictate our healing process. Like a She-wolf, we know how to tend to our wounds,” Shakira emphasized.

While residing in Barcelona during her marriage, Shakira found it challenging to focus on creating new music.

“It was a bit of a love-hate dynamic because whenever I had to enter the studio for work, I struggled,” she explained. “I felt like I was neglecting my family. There were moments when I didn’t find joy in it. I experienced guilt and conflict.”

She mentioned that she was converting pain, anger, and frustration into creativity, productivity, strength, and resilience during the recording

In June 2022, Shakira and Gerard confirmed their separation in a joint statement, prioritizing their children’s well-being and asking for privacy. By September of the same year, Shakira discussed coping with the breakup in an Elle interview, crediting music for aiding her through difficult moments.
