Expansion of Cyber Crime
The country is taking numerous steps to curb the rising trend of cyber crime. Amidst these efforts, the Union Home Ministry (MHA) has unveiled a new tool “Pratibimb” to combat cyber fraud. It is aimed at intensifying the crackdown on cyber criminals. The Cyber Crime Coordination Center, an arm of the MHA, has developed and introduced this software. It serves as an aid for state police forces and other agencies. Officials have stated that the software possesses the capability to monitor cyber criminals in real-time. Furthermore, it has the functionality to dismantle their networks effectively.
Real time location of mobile numbers
Officials report that the new software, Prakhand, will showcase the mobile numbers of cyber criminals on a Geographic Information System (GIS). This system will map out the numbers used by cyber offenders throughout the country. Prakhand is specifically designed to provide accurate location data for these numbers. Service providers and agencies will receive this information on the map, enabling them to pinpoint the real-time positions of cyber criminals.
Action against cyber criminals
The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has taken decisive steps against cyber crime. It has ordered actions against 12 identified hotspots of cyber criminal activity. The Prakharpan software detected these hotspots. A senior officer noted a challenge faced post-launch of the Prakashkar software. Surveillance has revealed that criminals frequently change their locations. This behavior has made it challenging to track the location of cyber criminals continuously.
Police arrested 50 criminals
Officials have identified Jharkhand and Haryana as key regions for ongoing operations against cyber criminals. The Haryana Police initiated the largest campaign to date targeting these offenders. This campaign led to the arrest of approximately 42 individuals. The majority of these individuals faced implications for engaging in cyber crimes with national repercussions. During the arrests, the police confiscated an array of items. They recovered 50 mobile phones, counterfeit Aadhar cards, 90 SIM cards, as well as cash and ATM cards from the suspects.
