    PM Modi congratulates Keir Starmer on his election victory, emphasizing the strengthened India-UK partnership and thanking PM Rishi Sunak for his contributions.

    Calling his recently appointed British counterpart Keir Starmer on Saturday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated him on his overwhelming win in the UK general elections. The Prime Minister also advocated for a comprehensive strategic cooperation between the two countries during their conversation.

    Strengthening Bilateral Relations

    It was a pleasure to talk to Keir Starmer. congratulated him on winning the UK prime ministership. PM Modi tweeted, “We are still dedicated to strengthening our strong economic relations and Comprehensive Strategic Partnership for the benefit of all peoples worldwide.

    Following the results announcement on Friday, Prime Minister Modi congratulated Starmer on his historic victory with the Labour Party and expressed his eagerness to work with the incoming UK government to strengthen bilateral and strategic connections between the two countries.

    “Keir Starmer has our sincere congratulations and best wishes on his incredible win in the UK general election. In order to further develop the India-UK Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in all domains and promote reciprocal progress and prosperity, I look forward to our positive and productive collaboration,” PM Modi tweeted.

    PM Modi’s Gratitude to Former PM Rishi Sunak

    PM Modi also tweeted his gratitude to his former colleague, British premier Rishi Sunak, who was the first person of Indian descent, for his work throughout his term. “We appreciate Rishi Sunak’s outstanding leadership of the UK and his proactive efforts to strengthen India-UK relations while he was in office. Best wishes for the future to you and your family, PM Modi stated.

    Soon after taking office as the 58th Prime Minister, Starmer promised to reconstruct Britain and declared that the nation had overwhelmingly voted for change during his annual visit with King Charles III at Buckingham Palace.

    Starmer’s Vision for Britain

    In his inaugural speech, Starmer declared, “Our country has voted decisively for change, for national renewal and a return of politics for public service,” standing in front of 10 Downing Street, the official residence of the British prime minister.

    In the 650-member House of Commons, the Labour Party won 412 seats, an increase of 211 from the last election in 2019. Only 121 seats were gained by Sunak’s Conservatives, a decrease of 250 MPs from the last election. The Conservatives received 23.7% of the vote, compared to 33.7% for Labour.
