New Delhi: On Monday, K P Sharma Oli took the oath of office as the prime minister of Nepal for the fourth time. The leader of Nepal’s main communist party, K P Sharma Oli, was reappointed as prime minister for a fourth term on Sunday. Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated him on Monday.

PM Modi commented on social media: “@kpsharmaoli, congratulations on your selection as Nepal’s prime minister. Anticipate collaborating closely to further the profound relationship between our two nations. And to broaden our mutually advantageous collaboration for the advancement and well-being of our respective populations.”

    Today is The Oath Ceremony

KP Sharma Oli has been appointed as the new Prime Minister of Nepal, following the failure of outgoing Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal to gain House of Representatives confidence. Oli, Chairman of the Communist Party of Nepal-Unified Marxist Leninist (CPN-UML), received support from the Nepali Congress. His swearing-in ceremony is scheduled for Monday.

With the support of NC President Sher Bahadur Deuba, Oli made a bid to become the country’s next prime minister on Friday night. He signed 165 House of Representatives (HoR) members. 77 of them were from his Communist Party of Nepal-Unified Marxist Leninist (CPN-UML) party and 88 from the Nepali Congress. During a floor test on Friday, CPN-Maoist Center Chairman Prachanda was not given the vote of confidence in HoR.

A Deal was Mediated by Deuba-Oli

Nepali Congress president Deuba and CPN-UML chairman Oli have signed a seven-point deal to form a new coalition government, replacing Prachanda. The remaining term of Parliament will be shared between them. Prime Minister Oli will form a small cabinet on Monday, and other political parties are likely to join. Oli served as Nepal’s prime minister from 2015 to 2021, but his appointment was ruled unconstitutional by the Supreme Court. Nepal has experienced 14 governments in the past 16 years.
