In the midst of all of this, an old video of Aishwarya Rai, Jaya’s daughter-in-law, became viral online. In it, she can be seen seeming shocked when a journalist named her “Aishwarya Rai Bachchan.”
Jaya Bachchan’s Objection in Rajya Sabha
The journalist introduces Aishwarya Rai at the start of the video, using “Rai Bachchan” as her last name. Aishwarya responds to it by saying, “Ohoo…that title is…my god! Just Aishwarya the way you know me, regularly. Aishwarya replies, “Aishwarya Rai as it has been professionally known, who got married to Abhishek Bachchan,” when asked if Rai Bachchan is her official surname. Thus, Aishwarya Bachchan. Create whatever you wish with it.

Abhishek Bachchan is Aishwarya Rai’s husband. The two became parents to Aaradhya Bachchan, a 13-year-old daughter, in April 2007 after getting married.
The Viral Video of Aishwarya Rai
Interestingly, the video was released a few days after Jaya Bachchan gained notoriety for her strong objection to Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman Harivansh Narayan Singh referring to her as “Shrimati Jaya Amitabh Bachchan.” She emphasized to the group that her identity is separate from her husband’s name. Harivansh Narayan Singh did point out that in the documents she filed, her name is listed as “Jaya Amitabh Bachchan.”
A few days later, Jaya was spotted making light of the incident, which also made some others in the Parliament laugh. However, it was short-lived as Jaya became enraged with Rajya Sabha Chairperson Jagdeep Dhankhar when he addressed her once more using Amitabh’s name.
Jaya Bachchan Gives Further Reactions
She should rename the election certificate, the vice president advised. Jaya, though, declined to comply. Jaya Bachchan responded, “No, sir. I’m incredibly pleased. My spouse’s accomplishments and my name both make me extremely proud. It denotes Abha. Jo mit nahi sakti ki. Thus, don’t be concerned. The drama is fresh and has a logo that doesn’t explain anything.
