    Lionsgate to Bring Suzanne Collins’ New “Hunger Games” Book to the Big Screen

    Lionsgate is set to produce a new "Hunger Games" film based on Suzanne Collins' upcoming book "Sunrise on the Reaping," with a release date of November 20, 2026.

    “Hunger Games” studio Lionsgate is working on a fresh film based on a new book by Suzanne Collins. The film production center of Hollywood studios in Los Angeles has declared that it is planning to make a ‘Hunger Games’ movie based on the novel penned by Suzanne Collins.

    On Thursday, the day the apocalyptic saga was released to the public, Collins revealed that the series was to be continued with the fifth installment. The novel shall be named Sunrise on the Reaping, and it is set to be published next year.

    Later that evening, Lionsgate Motion Picture Group chairman, Adam Fogelson, shared that the studio will be involved in developing the subsequent screen adaptation of the section, to be released in theatres on November 20, 2026.

    Director Francis Lawrence, notable for directing four of the previous films in the series, is confirmed to return as the director of the new installment. The project will be under ‘Color Force’, run by Nina Jacobson and Brad Simpson.

    “Hunger Games”is a survival and dystopian fiction work of Collins, Building on the philosophy of oppression, rebellion, power and its repercussions; the series comprises of “The Hunger Games”, “Catching Fire” and “Mockingjay”.

    Lionsgate developed the film series with Jennifer Lawrence-starrer “The Hunger Games” in 2012 and its three sequels “The Hunger Games: Catching Fire” ”The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1”, ”The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2”.

    It is a plot based on a post-apocalyptic nation called Panem, the capitol included, and thirteen districts struggling with hunger and poverty. Children between the ages of 12 from the twelve impoverished districts are chosen randomly to have a television reality show that essentially involves them killing each other to death in a fight known as The Hunger Games.

    “The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes,” written by Collins in 2020 was the prequel to the trilogy; The movie based on the book was released by Lions Gate Entertainment in 2023 featuring Tom Blyth and Rachel Zegler in main roles respectively.

    ”Sunrise on the Reaping” will take you back to the Panem named 24 years before the events of The Hunger Games to the moment of the reaping for the 50th Hunger Games, or the Second Quarter Quell.
