Arvind Kejriwal’s Bail: ED to Challenge in Delhi High Court

Delhi High Court may soon see ED in action as they challenge Arvind Kejriwal's bail. Kejriwal was released on a ₹1,00,000 bond after being in custody since March.

The ED will be moving to the Delhi High Court today to challenge regular bail granted to Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal by the city Rouse Avenue court in the excise policy case.

On Thursday, vacation judge Nyay Bindu released AAP’s national convenor and chief minister face – in judicial remand since March – on a bond of ₹ 1,00,000. When The Rouse Avenue court denied the request of the ED seeking 48 hours time to file bail bond it will try to move a plea against the judgment in the higher court on Friday morning as per ANI.

The said agency arrested Arvind Kejriwal on March 21 in connection with a money laundering case relating to the AAP’s scrapped liquor policy.

On May 10, the Supreme Court allowed Kejriwal to take a 21-day interim bail citing the parliament elections. The AAP chief had only offered to present himself before the Tihar Jail authorities on June 2.

What is more, Arvind Kejriwal had first approached the Delhi High Court in order to seek relief from his arrest. However, the court supported the agency’s move, saying that it had no other option since the Delhi chief minister had been skipping successive summons.

He had sought regular bail last month after the office of the apex court did not consider his request to allow him more time on interim bail.

Arguing against bail application, Additional Solicitor General SV Raju claimed that bribes collected by AAP leaders to prepare a policy that was beneficial to a particular category of business houses were being channeled into the party’s electoral campaign in Goa through the Hawala route. He accused Kejriwal of making regular contact to the Hawala dealers.

The bribe money was remitted by one Vinod Chauhan and was received by Chanpreet Singh Rayat who had been organizing the AAP election Campaign in Goa he said.

He also alleged that Arvind Kejriwal had taken a room in Goa’s Grand Hyatt in November 2021. This was done by Singh through contributions from his bank account to cater for the bill.

They said that it was Chanpreet who had received ₹45 crore from Hawala operators.

Kejriwal’s lawyer presented in court that the agency never produced any document that suggested AAP had accepted ₹45 crore.

He said that advice was not given by Chanpreet that he had paid for the AAP election or that he collected proceeds of the alleged crime, he added.

The lawyer urged the court not to categorize Arvind Kejriwal as a ‘special person’ while handling his bail application.

As for the Opposition, INDIA bloc came into confrontation with the ruling BJP due to the bail of Arvind Kejriwal.

Other prominent personalities who opposed the arrest included Rajya Sabha member and prominent lawyer, Kapil Sibal who claimed that Kejriwal should have been granted bail a long time ago.

He posted on X: “From the prosecution’s head, as they said now that elections are over, (there was) no need to keep him in jail The justice delivery system now has been unfair. ”

The SP chief, Akhilesh Yadav among others also chimed in terming the bail as victory of truth.

Another great victory based on truth is the arrest of Delhi’s favorite Chief Minister Shri Arvind Kejriwal ji of the ‘India Alliance’, The power and unity of the ‘India Alliance’ ANC is going to set free Indian citizens from the agonizing rule of BJP Soon India will be able to form a coalition government.

Sanjeev Nasiar, the state president of AAP Legal Cell, claimed that the ED was operating under “someone’s pressure.”

“The truth has prevailed. This was a BJP conspiracy, not a true case. For the AAP, the nation, and all of us, this is a tremendous victory. ED is operating under duress and lacks any evidence against any of our leaders. They attempted, but were unable, to put an end to Arvind Kejriwal’s political career,” he stated.

Regular bail in a PMLA case, according to AAP spokesperson Priyanka Kakkar, is equivalent to an acquittal.

“This case is wholly fraudulent; the BJP office wrote the entire document.” We are really appreciative of the court’s historic decision, Kakkar stated.
