Delhi, New: In response to criticism regarding the continued terror attacks in Jammu and Kashmir, the center abruptly moved Director General of the National Security Guard (NSG) Nalin Prabhat from AGMUT cadre to AGMUT cadre first. Within a day, the center then declared that Prabhat would become the next Director General of Jammu and Kashmir Police.
Nalin Prabhat, a 1992-batch IPS officer from the Andhra Pradesh cadre and current DG of the National Security Guard (NSG), is set to become the new DGP of Jammu and Kashmir, succeeding R.R. Swain, who retires on September 30.

Swift Move:Â NSG Chief Nalin Prabhat to Lead J&K Police
The Ministry of Home Affairs oversees the Arunachal Pradesh, Goa, Mizoram, Union Territory cadre, or AGMUT. The current Andhra Pradesh cadre IPS officer, RR Swain, a 1991 batch officer, is scheduled to retire on September 30. The 1992 batch officer will take over for him.
Mr. Prabhat is being dispatched to Jammu and Kashmir as the Special Director General of the Jammu and Kashmir Police with “immediate effect,” according to an order from the Ministry of Home Affairs. Furthermore, it stated that “Prabhat will be appointed as DGP, Jammu and Kashmir” upon Mr. Swain’s retirement on September 30.
Experienced Leader: Prabhat’s Extensive Anti-Terror ExpertiseÂ
According to a top Ministry of Home Affairs official, “Nalin Prabhat has served in Jammu Kashmir in various capacities for over twelve years and is very well aware of the anti-terror grid operations.” He claimed that the center moved quickly because elections will be announced in a few days. “So before code of conduct sets in, a well-established hierarchy is set in place,” he said.
Mr. Prabhat is a treasure of law enforcement experience, especially in places where there are frequent conflicts. He has extensive knowledge of the security dynamics of the area, having held positions as the Inspector General of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) in Jammu and Kashmir and as the Additional DG of the CRPF in the past. He has received multiple awards for his outstanding service, including the Police Medal for Meritorious and Distinguished Service, the Parakram Padam, and the Police Medal for Gallantry (twice).

Nalin Prabhat was born on March 14, 1968, in Thungri village, Manali, Himachal Pradesh. She holds an MA and a BA (Honours) from St Stephen’s College, Delhi. Throughout his career, he has held prominent positions in the governments of Andhra Pradesh and the Union, where he has received praise for his dedication to upholding security and peace and for his leadership.
