Details on the event were revealed by Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, who said on X, “At 02:35 am today, the Sabarmati Express engine (Varanasi to Amdavad) struck an object placed on the track and derailed near Kanpur.” There are noticeable, sharp hit marks. Proof is shielded. Police from UP and IB are also focusing on it.”

    Even though the evacuation was successful, the incident had a significant impact on rail travel, and the route is currently stopped. This segment serves as an important train corridor from Kanpur to Mumbai. Indian Railways has made arrangements for buses to help with the passenger movement to Kanpur in response to the emergency. According to reports, the Sabarmati Express 19168 struck a boulder and then derailed, seriously damaging the engine’s cattle guard.
