Viral Vox Pop Video Sparks Outrage Over Lack of Historical Knowledge Among Youth

A viral vox video questioning young people about the Father of the Nation has sparked outrage on social media, highlighting concerns over educational standards.

The Internet is buzzing with discussion about a video of a vox pop interview including young people. Many social media users have taken offense to the interviewer’s questioning of various young people on who the Father of the Nation is, and their answers. Ashoka Kumar Pandey, an X user, shared the video.

    The Controversial Video

A young woman answers the question by referring to “Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel” as the founding father of the country. Narendra Modi! says another woman. Well, that’s not the case. I have no idea, idea hi nahi hai.

In response, a young man says, “Ambedkar!” Another respondent says, “I am aware of this. I can visualize, but I can’t recall the name. The woman after her says, “Gujarat, Dilli (Delhi)!” Pandey shared the video on X and said, “First, just speaking English doesn’t necessarily mean that one has some knowledge; secondly, there should be a proper inspection of their schools and teachers.”

The video was shared on July 11 and has over 46,000 views. People on social media attacked the children in the video. “These children do not seem to have studied in government schools, then they should have known,” a user commented in response. “The only useless ones are the children and teachers of government schools,” the user said. “English medium schools with high fees provide very good education.” A different user asked, “Have they attended any school????”

    Conclusion

A broad discussion over the standard of education and general awareness among Indian youngsters has been sparked by the viral vox pop video. Many social media users were astonished by the young respondents’ responses, which ranged from naming Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel to Narendra Modi and even admitting total ignorance. This tragedy has highlighted the urgent necessity to reevaluate teaching strategies and educational standards to effectively communicate fundamental historical information.
