On Tuesday, a meeting of the BJP Legislature Party in Odisha will be held to select a new Leader and the new Odisha CM. This is the statement given by a senior party leader who has remarked that the new Odisha CM will swear in the next day. The BJP on June 4 was able to emerge as the single largest party in Odisha by winning 78 of 147 seats in state Assembly. It also won 20 out of 21 seats in the current Lok Sabha, becoming a strong contender for the Odisha CM position.
New Odisha CM to be From BJP
It is widely believed that one of the senior leaders in BJP in the state for which Samal has aggressively campaigned for in the past is Manmohan Samal who lost the Chandabali Assembly Constituency by a mere 1,916 votes. Besides, Sajjan Singh is no longer alive, but the speculations include former state BJP chief Suresh Pujari and Girish Murmu, who was the former principal secretary of Narendra Modi when he was Gujarat chief minister. The second scenario is the BJP leadership may pull off a surprise, like what it did in MP Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh last year where it declared CM candidates whom many thought could be a surprise.
The BJP has announced that Union ministers Rajnath Singh and Bhupendra Yadav have been given specific responsibilities for the selection of the new Odisha CM. In the preparations leading to the swearing-in ceremony, the party has suggested that the roadshow be done in Bhubaneswar with Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the helm of the event.
