Prime Minister Narendra Modi gave the Gaganyaan Mission astronauts wings and exposed them to the world on Tuesday. The four Indian Air Force officers will make spaceflight history as the first Indians to do it on a homegrown spacecraft.
Wing Commander Shubhanshu Shukla, Group Captain Ajith Krishnan, Group Captain Angad Pratap, and Group Captain Prashanth Balakrishnan are the four astronauts.
After the four astronauts finished extensive training in Russia, the program is currently being carried out in the Isro training site in India.
The four astronauts received a standing ovation from Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who declared, “At the Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre, we are witnessing another historic journey.” India greets the four astronauts from Gaganyaan. These are not simply four names; they are energies that will propel 140 crore Indians’ dreams into the stars.”
Three astronauts are to be launched into low Earth orbit as part of the Gaganyaan mission. After the US, China, and Russia, India will be the fourth nation in the world to send humans into space on its own.
To guarantee the mission’s safety and success, cutting-edge equipment is being created for the Gaganyaan spaceship, which is intended to house the astronauts. Life support systems, communication systems, and other necessities for sustaining human life in space will be installed on the spacecraft.
Astronauts were hand-picked and trained extensively for the Gaganyaan mission. The chosen astronauts undergo intensive training in areas like space navigation, survival skills, and simulated space missions to prepare them for the demands of space travel.
The Prime Minister paid a visit to the Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre while in Thiruvananthapuram. It was his first visit to the Isro headquarters.
Along with formally opening the Trisonic Wind Tunnel at the VSSC, the Semi-cryogenic Integrated Engine and Stage Test facility at Mahendragiri, and the PSLV Integration Facility, the prime minister also revealed the identities of the Gaganyaan astronauts.
The goal of the PSLV integration facility is to raise the annual number of PSLV launches from six to fifteen. According to the PMO, it is also intended to support the launch of mini-PSLVs, small satellite launch vehicles, and other tiny launch vehicles created by commercial space firms.
The new Semi-cryogenics Integrated Engine and Stage Test facility at IPRC Mahendragiri will enable the development of semi-cryogenic engines and stages, increasing the payload capacity of the present launch vehicles. The facility’s kerosene and liquid oxygen delivery systems allow it to test engines with up to 200 tons of thrust.
