Mahendra Aggarwal (Rajkummar Rao) is a young boy who wants to become an Indian cricketer, Destiny has different plans for him, he works in his father’s shop which sells sportswear. He arranges to get married to Mahima (Janhvi Kapoor) who accepts him mainly due to his honesty.
In this regard, it is important to understand that after the wedding, Mahi, who also likes cricket, influenced Mahendra and encouraged him to follow his dreams. Although he faces no chance of becoming a professional batsman he is advised to become a coach instead. Mahendra looks at the attention his trainer is receiving and also gladly accepts when he is asked to do so at first.
This is the period when Mahendra also understands that Mahima has the temperament to turn into an able professional cricketer, but could not do so up to now for the reason that her father does not want his daughter to turn into a cricketer rather he wants her to become a doctor. He convinces Mahi to pursue her dream and to do so he takes up the role of her coach.
The trends of getting into the right path as Mr & Mrs Mahi seem to enjoy the future in marriage but that comes with conflicts in any relationship. Yet the question remains, are the characters in the movie going to be able to surmount them? Who saved the princess? You guessed it, you’ll have to watch the movie for that. The current study focused on the factors that are effective for Mr. Mahi & Mrs. Mahi as they both work for organizations and are from the same country – Bangladesh.
The first thing that came up with the story is that, there is the concept of two crickets husband and wife who keep supporting each other to fulfill their dreams. This is also because, in the movie, it is the husband who urges his wife to be a cricketer and then becomes the coach himself who is eulogized.
The chemistry that Rajkummar Rao shares with Janhvi Kapoor are palpable yet, subtle and genuine. Rise of New Age Bollywood hero/heroine: You will not find them indulging in steamy passionate scenes with each other but witnessing two people who have just got married and are discovering each other and finding love in each other at every level is something I would wish to see much more in the new age Bollywood movies.
There is a contest that seems to emerge between the two in the 2nd half and which acts to save it from becoming just any other sports drama. Finally, the message that the film intends to present is something new to anyone who will watch it.
What does not work for Mr & Mrs Mahi?
Although it has a good concept the movie is not what it could have been. There is little in the first half to permit the audience to experience the euphoria of the movie-goer. It rises a bit in the second half because of the disagreement between the couple, but it remains below the line.
There are some positive qualities in the screenplay, but the pacing is not ideal to really get invested in the couple and want to see them end up together. In fact, the finale also looks rushed. A film that could have been a good romantic sports drama turns out to be nowhere because it offers neither a good romance nor an interesting sports drama. It is also because sports dramas are now more or less predictable at this stage. When there are no unpredictable or exciting moments available in the screenplay then just get bored.
Outcomes in Mr & Mrs Mahi
Rajkummar Rao is one of the most talented actors in Bollywood, and he has once again done a good job. Still, I think he could have been better in comedy scenes.
Janhvi Kapoor stands out throughout the film. Whether it is the sweet scenes where she has to be all innocent or the crying scenes, she has done a really good job. The effort she has shown in her acting and portrayal of cricket matches on the screen. Only Zarina Wahab, Kumud Mishra, and Rajesh Mishra are able to give a few scenes some life.
The director Sharan Sharma is also successful in extracting good performances from the star cast of the film. But the script they have penned down along with Nikhil Mehrotra does not allow the film to reach a level that can be called good entertainment.
Conclusion of Mr & Mrs Mahi
Mr & Mrs Mahi is a missed opportunity. The film that has the potential to be the star among the recent sports dramas can only be placed among the better ones.
