Kanpur city commissioner Akhil Kumar blamed the teenager’s family for allowing him to get behind the wheel again after a fatal accident occurred the prior year. KANPUR: A 15-year-old boy, who had killed two persons in an accident caused by rash driving in last October, was arrested and sent to a juvenile home on Wednesday after he was accused of causing another accident in Kanpur’s Barra.

In the six-month-old case, the teenage son of a well-known doctor in Kanpur was sent to a juvenile home and proceedings were re-started against him.

Kanpur city commissioner Akhil Kumar faulted the teenager’s family for allowing him to drive again after he was involved in a fatal crash last year. Kumar elaborated that the city police were actively avoiding underage driving and requested people to be more responsible.

Police confirmed that on Tuesday, the young man was driving a car and knocked down four individuals, some of whom sustained minor injuries. The injured were treated on the spot and the 15-year-old was arrested and charged with IPC sections 279 and 338 (reckless Driving).

The boy’s father, a reputed doctor of the city, has been apprehended for both accidents.

Sagar Nishad and Ashish Ram Charan were killed by the teenager in October last year when his speeding car on the Ganga Barrage hit them. commissioner of police (law & order) Harish Chandra said the teenager was previously charged under Section 304A (causing the death of a person by negligence which does not amount to culpable homicide) of the IPC. However, he noted that this has been replaced by Section 304 – culpable homicide not amounting to murder.

Chandra further stated that an awareness campaign would be launched in schools to discourage young people from engaging in underage driving.

Wednesday’s action is taken against the backdrop of growing criticism of the nation after the son of a real estate developer killed two people while driving a new luxury sports car under the influence of alcohol. The real estate developer has been arrested and put on a police remand till May 24 by a session court. Police have also sought an audience with the juvenile court to appeal against the decision to grant him bail.
