India commemorates the anniversary of Swami Vivekananda’s passing on July 4 each year. He was one of India’s greatest philosophers and spiritual leaders, born on January 12, 1863. He was the principal pupil of the Indian saint Ramakrishna, and his birth name was Narendranath Datta. He is credited with bringing yoga and Vedanta to the West.
In addition to being credited with advancing interfaith understanding and elevating Hinduism to the rank of a significant global religion in the late nineteenth century, Vivekananda is recognized as the founder of contemporary Indian nationalism.

Swami Vivekananda’s Life and Philosophy
Following his September 11, 1893, address at the World Parliament of Religions in Chicago, where he declared, “Sisters and Brothers of America,” Vivekananda became well-known throughout the globe. He was acknowledged for bringing Hinduism to the attention of a worldwide audience.
Early on in life, Vivekananda showed an interest in spirituality. He would meditate in front of Hindu deity images and showed a deep interest in religious and spiritual matters. At the request of Maharaja Ajit Singh, the prince of the tiny Rajasthani state of Khetri, he took on the name Vivekananda.
Death of Swami Vivekananda
On July 4, 1902, Swami Vivekananda passed away while meditating. It is believed by his followers that he achieved Mahasamadhi and that a cerebral artery rupture may have caused his death. It was previously predicted by Vivekananda that he would not live for forty years. In Belur, he was cremated next to the spot where Ramakrishna had been sixteen years earlier, on the banks of the Ganga river.
