Russian Navy: These conveniences come after the Russian navy demonstrations earlier this week in which it was accompanied by the Admiral Gorshkov frigate and the nuclear-powered submarine the Kazan.
Hostilities are heating up this week with Havana harbor being the epicenter of the rising naval power. In early of Friday, a patrol vessel of the Canadian navy, HMCS Margaret Brooke entered the harbor as the USS Helena, a fast attack submarine of the United States had previously tied at the Guantanamo Bay Naval Base. This came after Russia’s Admiral Gorshkov frigate and the nuclear-powered submarine Kazan docked in an integrated exercise at the Ports of Valletta this week.
The presence of numerous armed vessels with distinct flags and national symbols during the exercise has raised concerns over a new round of Cold War-like competition. However, the departments close to the United States and the Cuban officials denied any concern in regard to the Russian navy warships. The Russian government has sought to explain its naval deployment in Cuba as part of a usual sailing to an associate country.
Before their arrival in Havana on Wednesday, the Russian defense ministry said that the Admiral Gorshkov frigate and the Kazan submarine maritime drills in the accuracy of missile launches in the Atlantic Ocean.
