The men’s doubles badminton team from India, which consists of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty, has announced that Mathias Boe is retiring from coaching. Boe, who took home a silver medal at the 2012 London Olympics, verified this on Instagram.
Mathias Boe Gets Heartfelt Farewell
In an emotional post, the 43-year-old stated, “For me, my coaching days end here. I’m not going to continue in India or anywhere else, at least, for the time being.” “I’m a tired old man who has spent too much time in a badminton hall. Being a coach is also pretty stressful.”
World No. 5 Satwik-Chirag, one of India’s greatest medal hopes, lost 12-21, 21-14, 21-16 against the third-ranked Malaysian team of Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik, advancing them to the quarterfinals.

A Touching Message to His Wards
Boe wrote his wards Satwik and Chirag a touching letter. “I know the feeling all too well myself,” he remarked. Even though you’re pushing yourself daily to achieve your finest physical condition, sometimes things don’t work out the way you had anticipated. “I understand how devastated you guys are and how much you wanted to return with a medal to India, but this time it just wasn’t meant to be.
“However, you have much to be proud of for how hard you have worked throughout this Olympic camp, overcoming injuries and even receiving injections to lessen the pain—that is commitment, passion, and a lot of heart.”
Gratitude to Indian Badminton
“You will win even more in the future as you have won so much in the past few years.” Boe also expressed gratitude to the Badminton Association of India and the Sports Authority of India (SAI) for their years of assistance. “A special thank you to all of my Indian badminton colleagues as well. I’m grateful for all of our wonderful times together and send you my warmest wishes. Salutations, Jai Hind.
