The calendar for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections will be revealed at a news conference that the Election Commission of India (ECI) will host on today at 3 pm. Live coverage of the press conference will be available on ECI’s social media accounts. The announcement will also cover a few of the 2024 State Assembly elections.
This year’s election will take place in Andhra Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Odisha, Sikkim, Haryana, and Maharashtra. Additionally, the Indian Supreme Court ordered that Jammu and Kashmir Assembly elections be held by September 30, 2024, by the central government. The schedule for each of these states may also be released by the ECI.
The Lok Sabha’s current term expires on June 16, and a new House must be established before to that date.
From April 11 to May 12, there were seven phases for the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. In order to accommodate the 912 million eligible voters, one million polling places were put up nationwide, an increase from the 90,000 that were there in 2014. Over 67% of voters cast ballots. The most women ever registered to vote and the highest voter turnout were shown in the most recent general elections.
Gyanesh Kumar and Sukhbir Singh Sandhu, the two recently appointed Election Commissioners, were greeted by Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar earlier on Friday.
Ensuring the proper holding of the general elections in 2024 this year will be the primary responsibility of the recently appointed election commissioners.
After tomorrow’s announcement by the ECI, the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) will become operative.
