Cast and Character Revelations
Rachel Brosnahan was also spotted filming, however she covered herself with an all-black outfit to keep her costume hidden from photographers. To offer fans a sneak peek, director James Gunn released a new image from the film last month. When the director posted the image to Instagram on May 6, he commented, “Get ready. #Superman,” followed by date of release, July 11, 2025.
Nicholas Hoult plays the evil Lex Luthor in the cast, which also features Wendell Pierce, Isabela Merced, Terence Rosemore, Anthony Carrigan, Nathan Fillion, MarÃa Gabriela de FarÃa, and Skyler Gisondo.
Director’s Vision and Character Development
The new movie, formerly known as Superman: Legacy, will focus on “an earlier part of Superman’s life,” according to writer-director James Gunn. Prior to this, the Suicide Squad director hinted on social media that he had been working on this new Superman film “for a while.”
Gunn initially announced in June 2023 that Corenswet and Brosnahan would be playing Clark Kent and Lois Lane, respectively. However, speculation over who would be playing the cherished characters had been going around for months.
At the time, the Guardians of the Galaxy director said that the rumors were “Accurate!” in a social media post on X.com.
He noted at the time, “They are both wonderful people and incredible actors.”
He hinted to Variety in April 2023 of last year that the popular hero, who has previously been represented on screen by performers including Kirk Alyn, George Reeves, Christopher Reeve, Brandon Routh, and Henry Cavill, would have a more sympathetic side in this movie.
“The next Superman has to be someone who has all the humanity that Superman has but he’s also an alien,” Gunn stated at the time. “It’s gotta be somebody who has the kindness and compassion that Superman has and be somebody you want to hug.”
