Pawan Singh, the Bhojpuri singer and actor who had earlier declined the offer of Bhartiya Janta Party to contest in the Lok Sabha from Asansol seat in West Bengal, has filed his nomination papers today as an Independent candidate from Karakat seat in Bihar.

The official entry of Mr. Singh in the polls has turned the polls at the seat in Rohtas district to a triangular election as the National Democratic Alliance has fielded former Union Minister and Rashtriya Lok Morcha leader Upendra Kushwaha while Grand Alliance has field Communist Party of India candidate Rajaram Singh. Singh submitted the nomination at the district headquarters collectorate in Sasaram to Returning Officer and District Magistrate of Rohtas District, Naveen Kumar. The Rohtas district administration including SAS Nagar sweated a lot as they had to control a large crowd of thousands of person gather over there to see the celebrity.

On 2nd March, BJP announced the names of 20 candidates in West Bengal that included the name of Mr. Singh and it created a lot of uproar in the political circles for the content created by the singer and for the songs allegedly denigrating the Bengali women. On 10th April, he announced that he would contest from Karakat seat of Bihar and since then, Mr. Singh had continuously campaigning in the area. Before going to file the nomination, he went to the famous Pilot Baba Ashram to pray. Mr. Singh, who hails from Ara in Bhojpur district of Bihar was expecting Lok Sabha ticket from Ara itself but the constituency was given to sitting MP of the Bharatiya Janta Party R K Singh.

On 7th May, when Mr. Kushwaha had gone to attend the nomination of Mr. R K Singh in Ara, he was asked about Pawan Singh’s popularity to which he said that “ everybody knows him from social media and mobile phones and nothing is going on at the ground level”. Kushwaha had won the seat in 2014 and had also took birth in NDA. In 2019, Karamt seat was won by Janata Dal candidate Mahabali Singh who has been dropped this time and the seat has gone to Kushwaha.

Karakat will poll on 6th phase polls on June 1st. The seat comprises six assembly segments Nokha, Dehri-On-Sone, Karakat, Goh, Obra and Nabinagar out of which four constituencies falls under Rohtas district and two falls under Aurangabad district. Before filing the nomination today, BJP leader and Labour Resources Minister Santosh Kumar Singh had appealed this singer not to contest in the polls at Karakat.
