Actor Arun Govil of the famous Ramayan Doordarshan series has got 5,46,469 votes winning the Meerut Lok Sabha seat in Uttar Pradesh.

BJP candidate Arun Govil, who is 66 and hails from Meerut in Uttar Pradesh has won the elections from his hometown. This was the actor’s first time in the Lok Sabha elections that he faced as a BJP member after he joined the party in 2021. Actor Arun Govil of the famous Ramayan Doordarshan series has got 5,46,469 votes winning the Meerut Lok Sabha seat in Uttar Pradesh.

The assessment of his electoral performance is based on empirical analysis of the results of the Lok Sabha elections in which Govil had contested as a Bhartiya Janta Party candidate.

Preliminary statistics revealed that the main contender of the BJP candidate here was Sunita Varma, who was fighting the election from the SP party. Sunita got 5,35,884 votes. Bahujan Samaj Party BSP, Devvrat Kumar Tyagi secured 87,025 votes of the total vote cast towards this parliamentary.

During his campaign, Arun Govil had three main objectives that he wanted to achieve successfully. In spring for his party’s support, he pledged to the people of Meerut that if voted into power, he would put up an airport in the city put up a sports stadium, and complete the ring road of the city to enhance traffic circulation in the constituency.

Govil, 66, most unusually lodged three-time BJP MP Rajendra Agarwal, who has been the incumbent for Meerut since 2014. This was the actor’s first time that he contested for Lok Sabha after he switched sides to the BJP only in 2021. This year in January, when BJP called different film and television personalities to Ayodhya to perform Pran Pratishtha, then Govil was also there.

Many people recognize him for his role as Lord Ram in Ramanand Sagar’s Ramayan. While Govil was to set high standards of performance for acting as Lord Ram for the generations to come, the face painted the actor in a dramatic collapse after the show. Initially, he only wanted to be seen as Lord Ram and he could not throw away that image despite the fact that it earned him love and respect in return. Later on he did many more serials like Luv Kush, Vishwamitra & Jai Veer Hanuman in which he portrayed a number of mythical characters.

After Ramayan, Govil also started his journey in films and made his appearance in films like Muqabla in 1993, Hathkadi in 1995, Dhaal in 1997, Do Aankhein Barah Haath in 1997, and many more wherein he was seen as a character artist primarily.
