Modi to Be Sworn in for Third Term; Nitish Kumar’s Role Crucial in NDA-INDIA Power Play

Yesterday KC Tyagi, JD-U leader and close associate of Nitish Kumar said to new agency ANI that the party will remain in the NDA and thereby dismissed the possibility to join INDIA bloc.

As the 2024 Lok Sabha polls have not given an absolute majority to BJP, NDA and INDIA partners will be having critical sessions today. Viralsala has, however, learned from multiple sources that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be sworn-in for his third term on Saturday.

Yesterday KC Tyagi, JD-U leader and close associate of Nitish Kumar said to new agency ANI that the party will remain in the NDA and thereby dismissed the possibility to join INDIA bloc. The other kingmaker, Mr Naidu, congratulated Prime Minister Narendra Modi of NDA’s stupendous performance in Andhra Pradesh and declared that TDP and BJP will reconstruct the state.

Chief minister Nitish Kumar is expected to bargain hard and seek more ministerial berths, central funds early assembly polls as 12 Janata Dal (United) or JD(U) members of Parliament (MP) have become crucial for the formation of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) at the Centre. Several insiders revealed that Kumar has been eyeing at least four to five positions in the Cabinet. JD(U) was assured at least three berths in the Cabinet and one Minister of State (MOS) before the election.

The BJP and its allies in the NDA coalition secured 294 of the 543 parliamentary seats — 22 more than the majority figure of 272. The INDIA Opposition bloc ended up with 234, thirty-eight short of the required majority. The two regional satraps of NDA partners, TDP’s Chandrababu Naidu and JDU’s Nitish Kumar, hold the key to the doors of power. Both contested the general election in an alliance with the BJP, but sources suggest that INDIA leaders are said to have contacted former coalition partners to win over them to the side of the Opposition. DEMANDS AND SUPPLIES As the numbers stack up, INDIA needs the support of both JDU and TDP, and a bunch of unaligned MPs, to clinch a majority.

The leaders of the NDA and INDIA alliances are expected to hold a meeting and discuss the next course of action the following day in Delhi. Notably, Nitish Kumar who has got a history of political U-turns was in the same flight with INDIA ally and RJD leader tejashwi Yadav while both of them were heading to Delhi to attend different meetings. Notably, one set of visuals depicted Mr Yadav sitting right behind Mr Kumar. And then, another picture of the RJD leader standing beside the JDU chieff created quite a stir.

But what must be remembered here is that both these leaders have been quite critical of Prime Minister Modi and BJP in the past. Actually Nitish Kumar was actively involved in the campaign to form an anti BJP front before he changed sides at the last moment.

The INDIA leaders attending the key meeting in the national capital includes, Samajwadi party chief Akhilesh Yadav, RJD’s Tejashwi Yadav, Uddhav Thackeray, Sharad Pawar, DMK president MK Stalin and Trinamool Congress’s Abhishek Banerjee. Other leaders such as the left leaders will also attend the meeting.

Regarding NDA, Nitish Kumar and Chandrababu Naidu are arriving. It includes Shiv Sena leader and Maharashtra CM Eknath Shinde and Hindustam Awam Morcha’s Jitan Ram Manjhi, Jana Sena Pawan Kalyan, LJP Chirag Paswan and JDS’s HD Kumaraswamy.
