Zomato has introduced a ‘pure veg mode’ and a ‘pure veg fleet’ catering to customers with a strict vegetarian dietary preference.
CEO Deepinder Goyal noted that India leads globally in the percentage of vegetarians, prompting the launch of these new features in response to their feedback.
Goyal emphasized, “India, with the world’s largest proportion of vegetarians, underscores the importance of food preparation and handling, which is a key feedback we’ve received.”
Once activated, the feature exclusively displays restaurants offeringvegetarian cuisine to users.
Furthermore, orders placed through this mode will be handled and delivered by Zomato’s “Pure Veg Fleet,” utilizing green delivery boxes.
As social media users discussed the feature, “Zomato” emerged as the top trending keyword on X (formerly Twitter)
One user wrote, ‘Indeed. Vegetarians prefer dining at exclusively vegetarian restaurants and are particularly concerned about food handling practices, such as the use of separate utensils and oils.’
Another commenter shared, ‘Once, I received chicken in my vegetarian dish. Thank you for this option!'”
Deepinder Goyal mentioned the launch of a distinct fleet for “pure veg” deliveries, citing instances where food spillage in delivery boxes could potentially transfer odors to subsequent orders.
Goyal defended the feature against concerns raised by some internet users, who feared that it could lead certain housing societies and residents’ groups to prohibit entry of regular Zomato delivery agents identifiable by their red t-shirts and red boxes on vehicles.
Goyal assured that Zomato will remain vigilant for any such occurrences and collaborate with residents’ associations to prevent such incidents.
“I assure you that if we observe any significant adverse social consequences resulting from this modification, we will swiftly revert it.”
He mentioned that he received “a resoundingly positive response” to the new service from a multitude of individuals.
.Recently there were some changes to it as per CEO’s post
Although the veg-fleet will continue, the on ground changes done regarding the uniform colors will be revoked. All the delivery personal’s will now be wearing regular red color uniforms
